Purpose of Committee

The publication committee of the International Experiential Dynamic Therapy Association (IEDTA) was formed when the association was founded in order to further science and art of Experiential Dynamic Therapy (EDT) . The committee has been functioning on an informal basis. As IEDTA grows it seems vital to expand the committee and increase and formalize the activities of the committee. The chair of the committee is searching for interested members of the Association who would like to participate and develop goals that will support the mission of the organization. Up until this time the main effort of the chair has been to encourage and support members of the organization in publishing their work in a variety of Journals and texts, some of which are reviewed under the activities of committee.

The founding members of IEDTA, and others who have subsequently joined, have been prolific in their scholarly, clinical, and research publications. New Journal articles and books continue to be published as advances are made and new forms of treatment are continually evolving.

Josette ten Have-de Labije, an IEDTA board member, has lead the Dutch Association for STDP (VKDP) in publishing a journal dedicated to EDT, the Ad Hoc Bulletin.

A recently published special issue of the Journal of Clinical Psychology: In Session, is an example of the collaborative work that is being done. This special issue on Emotion-Focused Short-Term Psychotherapy with invited papers by Robert J. Neborsky, Patricia Coughlin Della Selva, Diana Fosha from IEDTA, as well as other affectively oriented theorist/clinicians/researcher, including Michael Bridges, Susan M. Johnson & Paul S. Greenman, Leslie S. Greenberg & Antonio Pascual-Leone, under the Editorship of Jeffrey J. Magnavita & John C. Norcross, presented cutting edge theoretical and research evidence for the emphasis on emotion in short-term therapy.

Activities of Committee

Encouraging senior members to publish their work and helping them find the appropriate venue . It is extremely important for the advancement of the organization and dissemination of work of cutting edge members of IEDTA to continue to publish their work, and in particular, to do so in mainstream peer reviewed publications. EDT has far less exposure, in spite of accumulating empirical evidence of effectiveness, than other mainstream approaches such as cognitive and cognitive-behavioral, which are easier to manualize and teach trainees. Along these lines you will find publications on the EDT References page, which through the efforts of the chair and others, have highlighted work of our founding members. Many other publications have also occurred since the inception of the organization and interested members can refer to. See EDT References

Mentoring junior members and all those who would like to publish . One important activity of the committee chair and eventually committee is to more formally mentor junior members of the organization who are interested in publishing their work in professional journals and texts. There have been a number of publications by junior members of the association which have been mentored by senior members. Along these lines, the committee chair along with Dr. Diana Fosha offered a workshop at the SEPI convention in Toronto (2005) where they presented a well attended and received seminar entitled The Pleasures and Pitfalls of Clinical Writing and How to Get Started . A number of members of IEDTA were present and have begun to write up their work, hopefully picking up some pointers. It is hoped in the future that senior members of the organization who have successfully published their work will offer similar workshops, at various IEDTA sponsored conferences. The process of mentoring young writer/clinicians is an essential activity of the committee that will add to the vitality and viability of the organization.

Consultation for members who would like to find venues or publishers for books, journal articles, etc. Those who would like are welcome to contact the committee chair for consultation about pursuing publications. The committee chair has edited two major volumes as well as many other texts and journal articles. We have a wealth of experience and pool of connections in the publishing world through various board members. Other published members who are interested in providing mentoring and consultation should contact the committee chair and a list will be developed with contact information.

Encouraging and assisting members to attain positions on review boards of Journals. Another way to increase the presence of the organization is for members to join the editorial boards of Journals as reviewers and book editors. In this regard, Dr. Danny Yeung has been selected to review some books for the Journal of Psychotherapy Integration . Members who are interested or aware of openings in editorial positions should contact the chair.
