“Whatever Happened to the Oedipal Complex?” Presented by Patricia Coughlin (Melbourne, Australia)
March 30 - March 31$640.00
Have you ever encountered cases like these – a man who can’t get an erection with attractive, age appropriate women and can only have sex with “old, ugly women”; a woman who only pursues married and unavailable men; and another who is overcome with guilt and must punish herself for experiencing sexual pleasure?
Why would one man go into a spiral of depression after “beating” his competition and winning the top prize in his field, while another assumes a passive, subservient position with men in authority, taking a one-down, loser position?
In cases like these, where themes of competition, “winning”, “beating rivals” and possessing a valued other (aka “the prize”) are prominent, unresolved Oedipal conflicts could be the root cause. Understanding these conflicts, how they arise, and what is required to help resolve them, is essential to be effective in such cases.
