Call for Presentation Proposals
for the
9th International IEDTA Conference
“New Frontiers in Experiential Dynamic Therapy”
26-28 September, 2019
Boston, Massachusetts, USA
Please forward to interested colleagues.
The 9th international conference of the International Experiential Dynamic Therapy Association (IEDTA) will focus on emerging applications and settings for Experiential Dynamic Therapy (EDT). EDTs are experiential, emotion-focused, psychodynamic psychotherapy models. EDTs use video recording of psychotherapy sessions to enhance training, supervision, research, and treatment. More information about EDTs can be found on the IEDTA website, iedta.net/edt/about-edt.
The conference will be organized in the form of sessions on specific topics. Sessions will be three hours in length, with the possibility of being longer if needed. Every session will have a chairperson and one or more other presenters. As such, each session will be run as a workshop on a specific topic. Due to the format of this conference, presenters are strongly encouraged to present no more than 20 minutes of video.
A significant objective of this year’s conference is to showcase a diversity of approaches. Therefore, the program will be constructed to present a balance of approaches, both for the conference overall, and within each session. The evaluation process will reflect this goal.
The conference will also include a Research Symposium. This will be organized separately.
These are the current session topics:
1. Addictions and EDT
2. Attachment and EDT
3. Countertransference and Therapist Affect in EDT
4. Couple, Family, Child, and Adolescent Therapy and EDT
5. Deliberate Practice and EDT
6. Highly Resistant Complex Cases and EDT
7. Inpatient and Group Treatment and EDT
8. Live EDT Demonstrations
9. Medically Unexplained Symptoms and EDT
10. Serious, Persistent Mental Illness and EDT
11. Technology and EDT
We invite you to submit a proposal for conference presentation for one of these topics; no video is needed for this initial submission. If your written proposal appears appropriate for one of the sessions, the session chair will contact you regarding submission of a brief clinical video vignette that would be representative of what you propose to show as part of your presentation. If the video sample is not in English, it must be accompanied by a English-language transcript, or subtitled in English.
Presentations will be no more than 45 minutes long with no more than about 20 minutes of video included in the 45 minute presentation. All presentations at the conference will be in English. All video shown at the conference will need to have English subtitles, even if the clinical video is in English.
Presentation proposals must be received by December 1, 2018. Each proposal should include:
(1) a brief written description of the proposed presentation;
(2) at least two learning objectives related to your presentation;
(3) a brief CV;
(4) up to 3 session topics you feel that your proposal would be appropriate for. We anticipate that most submissions will be for only one topic, but if you choose to submit under more than one topic, please rank your preferences in order.
Please send your submissions and/or questions to Allen Kalpin at akalpin@aol.com, who will forward to the appropriate session chair. We look forward to seeing you in Boston!
