IEDTA certifies Teachers, Supervisors, and Core-Training Programmes. The organisation itself does not offer training or supervision.
- IEDTA Teacher certification;
- IEDTA Supervisor certification and
- IEDTA Core-Training Programme certification.
At this time, IEDTA does not certify Teacher or Supervisor training programmes.
- Teachers: Certification of Teachers and Supervisors – IEDTA
- Supervisors: Certification of Teachers and Supervisors – IEDTA
- Core-Training Programmes: Certification Criteria for Core Training Programs – IEDTA
IEDTA certified Teachers must meet additional Supervisor criteria to become IEDTA certified Supervisors. For this reason, ‘IEDTA certified Supervisors’ are, in effect, and sometimes known as ‘IEDTA certified Teacher-Supervisors’. IEDTA provides certificates of completion for trainees who successfully complete an IEDTA certified Core-Training Programme.
IEDTA certifies Teachers, Supervisors, and Core-Training Programmes based on the information provided to the organisation. IEDTA is not able to independently verify most of this information and cannot be responsible for certification granted based on inaccurate information. IEDTA Core-Training Programme certification is based solely on satisfying criteria about the structure of core-training programmes. IEDTA is not able to assess or vouch for the quality of training and supervision provided. If you have concerns about the validity of an IEDTA certified Teacher, Supervisor, or Core-Training Programme, please contact the Education Committee.

Dear Colleagues,
It has come to our attention that some professionals have indicated on their websites or in their biographies that they are “certified by the International Experiential Dynamic Therapy Association (IEDTA)” or that they have attended CORE Training “conducted by the IEDTA.” We wish to clarify that the IEDTA does not certify individual psychotherapists, nor does it directly conduct or sponsor any CORE Training programs.
Instead, the IEDTA certifies CORE Training programs led by other professionals/organizations. If you have participated in or completed a training that is IEDTA-certified, you can accurately represent your credentials by stating, for example:
“I have completed CORE Training in ISTDP in [year of completion], conducted by [Name of Certified Organization and Supervisor(s)] — a program certified by the International Experiential Dynamic Therapy Association (IEDTA).” Followed by link to certification web page.
Including the name of the certified program and the supervisor is essential for clarity and transparency. This accurate phrasing upholds the professional standards of our community and helps the public and our colleagues understand your training background.
For more information on the IEDTA, its mission, and the list of certified training programs, please visit our website at www.iedta.net.
Thank you for your attention to this matter and for your commitment to maintaining the highest standards of professional integrity in experiential dynamic therapy.
Sincerely,
Ole Andre Solbakken
Chair, Education Committee
International Experiential Dynamic Therapy Association (IEDTA)
