Welcome to the updated IEDTA Certification Criteria webpage. Based on feedback gathered from a comprehensive survey of IEDTA teachers and supervisors, our Education Committee has implemented a limited revision to our teacher and supervisor certification criteria. The survey revealed that while 70–80% of respondents value our current rigorous standards, 20–30% suggested that certain requirements could be more flexible. In the same time 92.5% participants expressed concerns about lowering critical standards, especially if supervision hours, assisting during 3 years CORE training or alternative pathways were significantly altered. Nonetheless, minor adjustments were widely supported.
These targeted modifications aim to improve flexibility without compromising the robust framework that defines IEDTA certification. The new criteria are featured at the top of this page, while the former criteria are provided below. Applicants may opt to have their applications assessed according to the previous guidelines until the end of 2028. We appreciate your continued commitment to excellence in our community.
IEDTA certified Teachers and IEDTA certified Supervisors must meet the minimum requirements set out in the criteria listed below. At this time, IEDTA does not certify Teacher or Supervisor training programmes.
IEDTA certified Teachers must meet additional Supervisor criteria to become IEDTA certified Supervisors. IEDTA certified Supervisors are eligible to apply for IEDTA certification for Core-Training Programmes. In this way IEDTA certified Supervisors are eligible to become ‘lead trainers’ for IEDTA certified Core-Training Programmes.
IEDTA certified Teachers and Supervisors are expected to remain updated about all EDT therapeutic models within the IEDTA. IEDTA certification of Teachers and Supervisors is not life-long; it is subject to periodic review and re-evaluation. IEDTA promotes continuing education among all IEDTA members. In order to achieve this, IEDTA recommends that certified Teachers and certified Supervisors attend IEDTA international conferences at least once every four years. The IEDTA also suggests that certified Teachers and certified Supervisors participate in at least 3 days of training every 4 years as students of other IEDTA certified Teachers or Supervisors.
There is a USD $50.00 one-off fee to process Teacher certification and Supervisor certification applications that are approved.
IEDTA provides a grandparenting route to Teacher and Supervisor certification when there are significant reasons and extenuating circumstances why IEDTA criteria cannot be met through the usual routes. For further information please contact the Education Committee.
