Frequently Asked Questions about IEDTA Certification
-
We believe in the power of EDTs to transform patients’ lives, and, as the evidence base grows and the word gets out, we anticipate exponential growth in the number of therapists wanting to learn EDTs in the coming years. Given this growth, the IEDTA has determined that the best way to ensure rigorous training of the maximum number of therapists is to rely on a “dispersed” training model, in which we certify independent trainers and training programs who we rely on to produce adequately trained EDT therapists. Thus, the IEDTA does not certify therapists.

The IEDTA Education Committee makes every effort to review applications in an objective and unbiased manner, which requires us to adhere to the criteria in nearly every case. In rare circumstances, with compelling justification, the IEDTA Education Committee may make exceptions for individual criteria. Separately, the IEDTA Education Committee offers a “grandparenting” pathway for cases in which there is no way an applicant could ever reasonably fulfill criteria due to alternate experiences they received before the criteria were established (e.g., an applicant did not complete IEDTA-Certified Core Training because they were trained by Dr. Davanloo). If you are requesting exceptions or “grandparenting,” please still submit all the usual application materials (outlined above) and an additional signed letter from you describing what criteria you would like excepted for what reasons. Please note the “grandparenting” pathway and other exceptions are not available to individuals who can meet full criteria within a few months or years through the usual pathway. All applications and requests for exceptions are reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
