The APT London workshop Facing Your Fear with Kristin Osborn has been certified by the CPD Certification Service and will count towards your CPD requirements. There is still a small number of places available.
The one-day workshop will take place on 22 November 2014. It will address the topic ‘Facing Your Fear’: how to maintain therapeutic closeness and deliver effective interventions when you feel overwhelmed by the intensity of your patients’ emotions.
In this workshop, you’ll learn how to regulate your inhibitory affects (anxiety, fear, shame, guilt, disgust, emotional pain) and maladaptive defences, when working with a patient who is experiencing intense emotions like rage, sexual attraction, terror, sorrow, or longing for love. You’ll learn how to cultivate compassion towards yourself and to use your emotions, so that you can mindfully apply interventions and make decisions while maintaining a bond with your patient. You’ll participate in interactive exercises and practise skills to add to your therapeutic repertoire. By the end of the workshop, you’ll have a clear understanding of how to respond therapeutically when you’re experiencing fear or doubts when working with intense emotions.
You’ll learn how to use Malan’s triangles on yourself when experiencing your own affect phobia, how to identify the difference between a truly dangerous situation and your own affect phobia, how to cultivate compassion for yourself when you’re feeling overwhelmed in a session, and how to remain clinically focused when working with intense emotions.
This will be done with the help of video-segments of psychotherapy sessions, role playing, interactive exercises, and a PowerPoint presentation.
The workshop costs £150.00. The workshop is free of charge for APT Core Training London trainees. It takes place at our centre in Mayfair, London: 58 South Molton Street, London W1K 5SR.
