Core Training is a theoretical and applied clinical course, teaching the relational and experiential techniques of EDT, which can be applied to patients with varying degrees of resistance and fragility. Dr Jessica Bolton, Consultant Clinical Psychologist teaches and supervises the course.
This core training complies with the IEDTA (International Experiential Dynamic Therapy Association) requirements for advanced training. Successful completion of this three year post-clinical training qualifies trainees for accreditation with IEDTA.
Monthly core training days are set in the autumn of the proceeding year, but are proposed to fall on Thursdays and Fridays in 2016. There are 10 set training days, which will involve theoretical training, skills development and supervision.
Trainees can supplement this by attending up to 10 extra theoretical teaching and skills development mornings. This enables trainees to have fortnightly training sessions during term time, an opportunity that greatly enhances the learning and development process.
The theoretical teaching will cover the main elements of theory; including theoretical framework, application, rationale and evidence base. Video demonstrations of the technique in practice are also used within teaching.
The video supervisions are focussed on supervision of trainees’ videotaped sessions and focus on the supervisees development. Core training group size is 6-8 participants, additional skill development mornings may be larger or with other year groups.
Accreditation from IEDTA comes after three years of core training, however, trainees can commit a year at a time.
