This presentation focuses on observations of treatment undertaken as part of a service development and research project delivering Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy into a secondary mental health NHS service. Excerpts of video material form the basis of a discussion of clinical observations. These relate particularly to evaluating and building ego capacity, working with splitting processes encountered in the rise of complex feelings, and moments of unlocking unconscious material. A particular emphasis is on decision points and dilemmas encountered in working in accelerated treatments for a patient population considered severe, complex and treatment resistant.
Susan Hajkowski is Lead Practitioner in Psychotherapy, Derbyshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.
