The Interplay of Shame and Anxiety: A Video Analysis

29 April 2017 @ 12:15 PM - 4:30 PM

$130 – $155

The presenter draws from an extensive video library to demonstrate her approach to lowering anxiety and shame and resolving trauma-related emotions.

This workshop offers therapists practical knowledge that can be taken to the office and applied in the effort towards better outcomes, which studies have linked to accessing and processing trauma-related affect. However, therapists are challenged by the numerous self-protective and deeply entrenched responses that often shield the most vulnerable parts of the self. This video analysis will demonstrate a path to surmounting these barriers successfully.

The presenter emphasizes sensitivity to shame states, as new levels of emotional intimacy are attempted within the therapeutic relationship. Neurobiological attunement and the transfer of self-compassion provide a ground of safety that can open doors to greater risk taking and exploration of new and more adaptive self states.

Video analysis of client sessions will demonstrate:
An approach to accessing unconscious emotions
Elements of shame-sensitive interventions to disarm defenses
Active monitoring and regulation of anxiety
Mindful tracking of feelings, bodily sensations and beliefs
An integration of evidence-based methods

Workshop Objectives:
Apply a graded approach to increase capacity for feelings
Utilize shame-sensitive interventions to disarm defenses and reduce anxiety
Describe somatic and verbal signals of shame and anxiety
Analyze how to sustain an internal focus
Describe the transfer of compassion for the cost of defenses
Explain features of an egalitarian partnership

CE points available through R. Cassidy Seminars
