This is the Privacy Policy of the International Experiential Dynamic Therapy Association (IEDTA), a US-based organization whose international membership is dedicated to the practice, research, and dissemination of Experiential Dynamic Therapies (EDTs). The IEDTA is committed to handling your personal information in a secure and straightforward manner that safeguards your privacy.
If you have any questions or concerns on the subject of your data privacy at IEDTA, please contact privacy@iedta.net.
Here are the main categories of personal information we handle:
- Communications with us
- IEDTA News email announcement list
- EDT-List email discussion group
- Membership information
Information that we gather from and about you is based on your consent, which can be withdrawn by you at any time.
Our website does not use cookies or other tracking software. Public domain information, such as authorship of published articles, is not considered personal information and is not covered by this policy; as such it may appear freely on our website or in other media.
What follows is an outline of the personal information we gather, how we use it, how we share it, and how long we retain it. In all of these cases:
- You can review, correct, or delete your personal information
- You can withdraw consent at any time
- You can lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority
We are a volunteer-based organization, with minimal paid staff. In what follows, “IEDTA staff” refers primarily to IEDTA officers and committee members, as well as people we may employ or consult. Please note that as a volunteer-based organization, our responses to inquiries may not be as rapid as organizations with extensive professional staff. Like every other organization, we use services provided by outside vendors to process and store your information; in what follows, these are known as “IEDTA processors.” If you are in the European Union (EU), your data will probably be processed and stored in non-EU countries, but all our processors are GDPR-compliant.
No privacy system can be 100% secure, and so it is particularly important that in your communications with us, especially on the EDT-List, that you not include patient-related information that is in any way identifiable.
Communications with us:
When you email our organization (e.g. at “membership@iedta.net”) or fill out a form on our IEDTA.net website, that information is communicated to us.
The information is used by IEDTA staff and processors to respond to your communication. Because of our volunteer nature, the information may be forwarded to email addresses outside of our organization, e.g. to IEDTA committee members. While the those recipients are committed to handling your data appropriately, we are not able to guarantee our ability to control the data (e.g. to delete it upon request) once that happens.
We may retain your communications in our system for up to two years for historical continuity.
IEDTA News email announcement list:
The IEDTA News email announcement list is for announcements of things related to our organization or that we think may be of interest to our community. No one is added to the list without their explicit consent. Anyone may subscribe to this list at any time, and may leave at any time; subscriptions lapse after two years unless they are renewed. The subscription information is used only for the distribution of the list and for related matters such as list renewals. The information is not shared with anyone outside of IEDTA staff and processors except as required by law, and is not retained after leaving. Subscribers to the list have no access to information about other subscribers on the list. We do not share, rent, or sell our email list, except as required by law.
EDT-List email discussion group:
The EDT-List email discussion group is devoted to discussions about clinical and theoretical issues relevant to EDT, IEDTA organizational matters, and announcements of publications, events, and other matters that subscribers believe may be of interest to our community. The list is open to health professionals and those in training in a health profession. Subscribers are added only by application and may unsubscribe at any time; subscriptions lapse after two years unless they are renewed.
In general, the list is not moderated, and any subscriber can post at any time. We publish guidelines about appropriate use of the list, and subscribers may be removed for repeated infractions, but we cannot guarantee that every post will follow the guidelines.
If you post to the list, every other member of the list will be able to see your name, your email address, the content of your email, and other “header information” accompanying your email. Otherwise, subscriber information is not shared with anyone outside of IEDTA staff and processors, except as required by law.
We use your information for the purpose of list distribution and other correspondence related to the list, such as confirming that you would like to continue as a subscriber. Your email address is not used for any other purpose while subscribed or after unsubscribing.
Posts on the list are part of the intellectual history of our organization, and are archived indefinitely subject to the limitations above. At some future date, these archives may be made available to IEDTA members.
Membership information:
IEDTA membership is open to you if you have a university degree and a government-issued registration / certification / license allowing you to practice in your country. If you join, we will ask for information about you including contact information, training history, and licensure. This information may be used by us to contact licensing authorities to verify licensure, in which case we would retain a record of verification. We might add other information related to the work of the IEDTA, such as participation in committees or professional publications. We would use your information to communicate with you about your membership, for example for renewals. Members may belong to either or both email lists but it is not required. Membership is subject to periodic renewal, generally every two years. You can resign your membership at any time.
Members may request that certain information they provide be displayed publicly on the IEDTA website, such as a listing in our Therapist Directory. This information can be removed on request at any time, and we do not retain it after removal.
The IEDTA retains information on our membership indefinitely, as part of the history of our organization, subject to the limitations above. Information about former members is not used for any form of solicitation. We do not share our membership information with anyone other than IEDTA staff or processors without your explicit consent, except as required by law.
IEDTA processors:
These are the other entities used to process and store your information. We use processors that are committed to the integrity and privacy of your information, and meet the GDPR standards of the European Union.
Our purpose in using processors falls into a number of categories. Our main vendors are listed as examples, but the list is not be complete.
- Processing and archiving emails we receive, and information submitted to our website, for which we use Google’s G Suite
- Our website is hosted by WP Engine, which processes (a) all communications through the site, and (b) publicly available information such as therapist directory entries.
- We keep track of members and other contacts using Capsule CRM
- We distribute the IEDTA News announcement list using Mailchimp
- The EDT-List email discussion group is run through Mail-List.com
- We use Stripe and PayPal to receive credit or debit card payments
In terms of payment processing, the IEDTA never receives or processes your credit or debit card information. All of that is done by the payment processors listed above, and may involve automated processing of your information to guard against financial fraud. Payment processors will give you the option of storing your payment information with them, but this is not required in order to make payments to the IEDTA.
