I am a Health and Care Professions Council registered Practitioner Psychologist (HCPC) and Doctor of Clinical Psychology. I am a Chartered member, Associate Fellow, and Clinical Psychologist specialising in Psychotherapy, with the British Psychological Society (BPS).
I have worked in Mental Health in the NHS since 2004 in a wide range of clinical settings including secondary care (community mental health teams), and specialist psychodynamic psychotherapy services (tertiary care), older people’s (dementia) services and with children in a child and adolescent psychotherapy service. My International Core Training in ISTDP (Intensive Short Term Dynamic Psychotherapy) with Dr Josette ten Have-de Labije and Dr Kees Cornelissen ended in 2016 and I am a member of IEDTA (International Experiential Dynamic Therapy Association). I completed my Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the University of Birmingham in 2009 and gained an REBT Practicum in the same year from the Albert Ellis Institute, USA. Prior to this I completed a Master’s degree in Psychology in 2002 and then worked in Primary Care Mental Health, training in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, also completing a Post Graduate Certificate in Mental Health. I am also trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing), am a member of EMDR Association UK & Ireland, and am also very experienced in mindfulness, compassionate mind, and meditation practices.
I provide clinical supervision to Clinical Psychologists and psychotherapists. I also offer specialist clinical placements in ISTDP for psychotherapists and Clinical Psychologists undertaking doctoral training. I have taught on the Birmingham Doctoral programme on the specialist module in Psychodynamic therapy.
I provide psychological assessment and psychotherapy to adults with complex mental health difficulties including people who have experienced significant trauma/PTSD, early childhood trauma, personality difficulties, depression and anxiety, relationship problems, eating disorders, substance misuse, bereavement and loss, psychosis, identity, sexual problems, physical health problems and medically unexplained symptoms/somatic problems and chronic pain.
I have an established private practice in Birmingham and Solihull offering assessment and psychotherapy to people for a wide range of problems. Every person is unique and therefore therapy is adapted to the particular experience and needs of the individual. As an experienced Psychologist and Psychotherapist I am skilled in drawing upon creative and ancient methods combined with modern scientific understanding to help people unlock their buried unconscious feelings with compassion and precision. Through careful inquiry the unconscious roots of painful emotions can be unearthed and transformed causing profound shifts in insight. This also involves drawing upon an individual’s felt sense and intuitive wisdom to understand, re-discover and finally liberate themselves from past trauma and pain and in that process have a much richer and deeper understanding of themselves.
My psychotherapy practices are based in Solihull and Kings Heath, West Midlands, with easy connections to Birmingham, Warwickshire, Knowle, Dorridge, Acocks Green, Hall Green, Moseley, Edgbaston, Leamington and Coventry.
