I am a psychiatrist focused on the delivery of deep, effective, accelerated therapeutic work.
As a psychiatrist, I am also adept at managing medications, which can be helpful at times in managing symptoms, or for more severe illnesses. I treat conditions including depression and anxiety, relationship difficulties, low self-esteem or feelings of inadequacy, chronic self-defeating patterns, and issues related to trauma.
Having entered medical school with an interest in surgery, I was immediately attracted to psychiatry by the therapeutic power of the doctor-patient relationship. Ultimately, this interest in the therapeutic relationship has led to my passion for Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy. When I first saw ISTDP in residency at UC San Diego, I was enthralled seeing people getting empowered to reach deep wells of emotion – often painful, but truly healing. Upon my return in 2014 from a year abroad in New Zealand, I participated in the Summer Intensive in Virginia and IEDTA conference, and am now pursuing core training in ISTDP with Patricia Coughlin, PhD.
I am also trained in EMDR, an evidence-based treatment for issues relating to trauma, which can be a helpful adjunct to dynamic psychotherapy.
