Mark John Stein, BSc (Hons), PhD, DClinPsy, CPsychol, AFBPsS

Dr Mark Stein is a clinical psychologist working in the UK in private practice, and in China to develop clinical psychology and specialist psychological therapies services for the local and international populations. He has worked within the UK National Health Service for over 16 years with an interest in psychotherapy and clinical health psychology.

Dr Stein is registered with the UK Health and Care Professions Council, has chartered status with and is an Associate Fellow within the British Psychological Society. Dr Stein has completed two core trainings in experiential dynamic psychotherapy: (i) Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP) with Dr Josette ten Have-de Labije and Dr Kees Cornelissen, and (ii) Intensive Experiential-Dynamic Psychotherapy (IE-DP) with Dr Ferruccio Osimo.

Dr Stein has also completed further years of training with Dr ten Have-de Labije and Dr Cornelissen to become an International Experiential Dynamic Therapy Association certified teacher and supervisor in ISTDP. Together with Dr Ross Crowther-Green, Dr Stein has provided an International Experiential Dynamic Therapy Association certified Core Training in ISTDP in the UK, and is a Co-Director of the UK Institute for Research, Training and Practice in ISTDP, and guest editor for the Ad Hoc Bulletin of Short-Term Dynamic Therapy.

Dr Stein regularly provides a variety of training placements for doctoral students undertaking training in clinical psychology, and regularly teaches about the Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapies and ISTDP at Universities within the UK. Dr Stein is an Honorary Teacher in Clinical Psychology at the Department of Psychology Clinical Psychology Unit at the University of Sheffield. Dr Stein has organised and / or presented at national and international conferences, most recently in Berlin, on the Working Alliance in ISTDP, and for the British Psychological Society in London. Dr Stein has published in the field, and with Dr Osimo, co-edited Theory and Practice of Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy. Dr Stein has an interest in clinical research, in particular, psychotherapy process research, and has been involved in doctoral research evaluating the benefits of extended initial sessions, as well as serving as the NHS clinical research supervisor for a doctoral student at the University of Sheffield conducting research into the use of video-recording in clinical practice and professional development.
